A deep-dive into routing security and MANRS

This technical workshop is designed to improve knowledge and skills in BGP and routing security. It uses hands-on activities to teach current industry best practices in both IPv4 and IPv6 in a dual-stack infrastructure. Topics include:

  • Overview of BGP & IGP
  • BGP traffic engineering tools (Local Pref, MED, AS path prepend, communities etc)
  • BGP Operations and Security (RFC7454)
  • Network ingress filtering (BCP38 and BCP84)
  • Overview of the Internet Routing Registry
  • Introduction to RPSL
  • Introduction to RPKI (ROA and ROV)
  • Lab (online lab)

Aftab Siddiqui joined the Internet Society (ISOC) as a Technical Engagement Manager in November 2016.​

Prior to joining ISOC, Aftab worked as an Australian network integrator and at a Pakistani ISP. He has a strong technical and operational background. Mr. Siddiqui has been a key contributor to the global, regional, and local efforts in the APNIC community and has been an active participant in SANOG, APNIC/APRICOT and MENOG for many years.  Aftab has increased participation and membership of ICANN's ASO and will be a technical resource to the APAC bureau and a member of the Internet Technology Office, focusing on Deploy360 efforts.​
