What is SecureConnect?

Connectivity today is not just a concern for companies and institutions, it directly impacts every end user - affecting daily routines, essential needs, and personal security. A robust network foundation is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted work, and seamless interaction with our digital lives.

SecureConnect Transit and SecureConnect DIA are Arelion’s enhanced IP Transit and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) solutions. These next-generation connectivity services come with integrated security features, providing a resilient and secure digital experience for Arelion’s customers and end users.

Simply put, SecureConnect Transit and SecureConnect DIA add built-in security to Arleion’s IP Transit and DIA solutions, making data transfer and Internet access even safer and more reliable.

SecureConnect Transit - for network providers

IP Transit is Arelion’s flagship product, having powered global connectivity for decades. Our Tier-1 Autonomous System, AS1299, has held the distinction of being the world’s #1 global Internet backbone since 2017. It delivers consistently low latency, reaching 95% of North American and European end-users within a single network hop. AS1299 supports high-speed Internet access ports up to 400 Gbps.

SecureConnect Transit combines the performance of IP Transit with additional security features. This upgraded best-seller is ideal for Tier-2 and Tier-3 providers seeking reliable volumetric DDoS protection and targeted traffic filtering services.

SecureConnect DIA – for secure enterprise networks

Compared to IP Transit, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) is simpler - customers don't require an AS number, their own IP addresses, or BGP routing. Launched in Q3 2025, SecureConnect DIA is security-enhanced DIA service, designed primarily for enterprises, and is exclusively available to on-net customers.

It enables secure, high-performing connectivity for cloud services, data centers, and WAN environments.

However, traditional VPNs often fall short in meeting today’s enterprise demands. They can be complex to manage, lack scalability, and may not provide the level of security or performance required for hybrid and cloud-first environments. This is where SecureConnect DIA stands out.

With SecureConnect DIA, enterprises benefit from:

  • Built-in security that protects sensitive data and ensures compliance with industry regulations
  • High reliability and performance, essential for mission-critical applications
  • A secured private network, offering enhanced protection compared to public Internet-based solutions

How SecureConnect works

How Secure Connect works

SecureConnect operates in a similar way to Arelion’s premium DDoS protection services.
It continuously monitors the global network for inbound DDoS attacks using the industry-leading Arbor DDoS platform. When a supported attack is detected, the network is automatically updated with filtering defences via the Flowspec protocol, stopping the attack at the edge of Arelion’s network.

These rules remain active for the duration of the attack, allowing the vast majority of legitimate traffic to pass through and keeping IP services operational. Once the attack ends, the Flowspec rules are withdrawn.

SecureConnect use cases

Business continuity assurance
Securing your Internet access at the source helps you maintain business continuity. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks can severely impact operational stability and our SecureConnect solutions proactively defend your network, mitigating even large-scale attacks. This ensures that your data centers, servers and Internet connectivity remain fully functional, and your business can run smoothly, even in the face of rising DDoS threats.
Simplified two-in-one solution
With SecureConnect Transit and DIA, you get access to the best-connected network, with insurance against volumetric DDoS attacks, all for a simple per Mb price.
Treat yourself to peace of mind
Our robust protection measures shield you from large-scale volumetric attacks, giving you the confidence to focus on your core business. Using protocols such as Flowspec, Arelion bakes in organizational security at the network layer.

    SecureConnect vs DDoS Protection

Key differences of DDoS and SecureConnect
Feature Unprotected IP SecureConnect Transit/DIA Full DDoS mitigation
Exposure to attacks High risk of being targeted by multiple cyber-attack vectors, including DDoS Proactive monitoring of volumetric threats and automatic mitigation of large-scale volumetric threats Proactive monitoring and mitigation to significantly reduce the risk of attacks, with timely prevention
Traffic handling Unable to handle large volumes of malicious traffic, leading to potential downtime Ensures service continuity by defeating common large scale traffic attacks at the network edge Ensures service continuity by absorbing and filtering large volumes of traffic in the “background”
Detection No built-in mechanisms to detect unusual traffic patterns or prevent disturbances and outages Passive detection systems monitor the network for hostile traffic flow Advanced detection systems, ranging from single management to multi-homing setups, identify and respond to unusual traffic patterns
Response No automated response to mitigate attacks  Automated network level defenses to prevent DDoS volumetric attacks Automated and intelligent response mechanisms to drop malicious traffic
Scalability Limited scalability; extremely vulnerable to large-scale attacks High scalability due to network-based capability Highly scalable to handle growing attack sizes and new attack vectors
Cost While the initial cost is lower, the overall cost can be exceptionally high due to downtime, business interruption, and data breaches A modest increase in cost per Mb/s will defeat the most common DDoS attacks and give peace of mind Higher initial cost but lower long-term cost impact due to reduced downtime and enhanced security

    SecureConnect – product benefits

A secure connection is the backbone of modern digital infrastructure, enabling organizations to operate globally in an efficient way. Here are the key benefits:

    • Secure connections protect sensitive data from cyber threats, unauthorized access, and data breaches. They ensure compliance with industry regulations and build trust with customers and partners by safeguarding communications and transactions. A DDoS attack is often cover for a data breach.
    • Optimized secure connections reduce latency, improve data transfer speeds, and ensure reliable uptime. This leads to a smoother user experience, faster application performance, and more efficient workflows.
    • By minimizing downtime, reducing the risk of costly breaches, and enabling smarter resource allocation, secure connections help organizations lower operational costs. They also reduce the need for expensive remediation and recovery efforts.
    • Secure infrastructure supports seamless scaling as business needs grow. Whether expanding to new markets or increasing user capacity, secure connections ensure that performance and protection grow in tandem.
    • With secure connectivity, businesses can confidently operate across borders. It enables secure access to global cloud services, remote teams, and international customers, fostering innovation and collaboration on a worldwide scale.

    Frequently asked questions about SecureConnect

How does SecureConnect differ from VPN?

Traditional VPNs are a closed network, often with high cost and limited flexibility.  Arelion is offering SecureConnect as a bundled secure IP Layer 3 connection, ready for you to overlay any required connectivity you see fit, whether that be to the cloud or using SD-WAN to construct extensive, redundant networks out of these components.

Can SecureConnect help build a secured private network?

Arelion is committed to providing you with the best possible underlay network for a secure private network, whether it is built with traditional layer 3 VPN or newer SD-WAN technologies.  Regardless, it is vital that your service remains up and running, with a solid defense against malicious actors - substandard resiliency can drop entire sites with devastating consequences.  Arelion provides both a resilient network and a good level of DDoS protection in a single package to guard against these increasingly common threats.
