Founded in 2001, Ankama, the online gaming production company and one of France’s top digital companies, has been a long-standing Arelion customer. The company chose to use Cloud Connect to help with full-migration to AWS.

Going ALL-IN with AWS

More than 80 million users around the world play Ankama’s games, including its flagship game DOFUS. Ankama made a strategic decision to move the vast majority of its technology infrastructure to AWS and gain better access to cloud-based technologies.

The company asked Arelion to provide stable and secure connectivity to AWS for the migration project.

The Challenge: Gracefully move to AWS with minimal disruption

Ankama is an early adopter of cloud technologies driven by the goal to efficiently accelerate its application development capabilities. The company reached the final phase of its migration journey, which involved moving away from its on-premises infrastructure. This critical stage required migrating data from the company's data center to AWS.

Ankama needed to determine the best approach, and realized that using an internet connection had higher risks with moving sensitive business information and providing enough bandwidth for the migration.

The Solution: Controlled large-scale migration to AWS

After considering a few different options and consulting Arelion's solution architects, Ankama decided on private connections to AWS. Using the Cloud Connect service, Ankama could provision resilient, dedicated links to AWS. Traffic was isolated from the public internet to provide a more consistent and secure network environment.

The service uses Arelion's global IP backbone and AWS Direct Connect to guarantee a high-bandwidth backbone to transfer data between Ankama’s on-premises network and the AWS cloud.

The results: Successful replatforming to AWS

Arelion provided a secure and reliable network environment to move Ankama forward to the next stage and complete the full migration to AWS.

After setting up the connection, Ankama could continue its investment in the cloud and successfully reinvented itself as a cloud-native business.
